Portland's tech scene grew up in the shadow of the trees it's named after. Tektronix put oscilloscopes on engineers' benches worldwide from Beaverton in the 1950s, and the alumni who left it seeded a generation of hardware companies. Intel followed in 1974 and never left — Hillsboro is still the company's largest concentration of employees anywhere on earth. Around that spine grew open-source shops, footwear-and-apparel digital teams, and a stubbornly community-run meetup culture that this calendar exists to serve.
